S.C.R.A.M. UNIT

Sex Crimes Registration Apprehension and Monitoring ( S.C.R.A.M.) Unit is assigned to the Violent Personal Crimes Section of the Criminal Investigations Division, which is part of the Special Services Bureau, and was formed in November of 1998. S.C.R.A.M. is responsible for the investigation of all sexually assaultive offenses, excluding those with child victims. In addition, the Unit is charged with the enforcement of the Sex Offender Registration Program as dictated in Chapter 62 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
The S.C.R.A.M. Unit personnel are available to talk to groups on "Personal Situational Awareness Training." The training lasts about 2 hours; however, the program can be adjusted to meet the needs of your organization. Topics include: recognizing and acting upon your intuition to reduce the risk of being a victim of a violent assault, who is a predator or attacker--myth vs reality, signals to watch for when encountering a stranger or meeting a new acquaintance, dating relationships--warning signals and potential dangers, risk factors that may increase the chances of a violent personal assault, and drug/alcohol facilitated sexual assaults. Duties of the S.C.R.A.M. Unit include:

  • Registration and tracking of all convicted sex offenders living within the City of Fort Worth that meet the criteria for registration as detailed in Chapter 62 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
  • Investigating sex offenders for Failure to Comply with Registration Requirements, CCP, Art. 62.10.
  • The monitoring and surveillance of registered sex offenders living within the City of Fort Worth to verify compliance with registration laws and/or technical violations of conditions of probation or parole.
  • Verification of the information provided by the offenders that will facilitate the identification of suspects involved in new sex crimes.
  • Community notification and public information obligations as mandated by the Code of Criminal Procedure, Chapter 62.
Information regarding registered sex offenders living in a particular area or zip code (within the City of Fort Worth) is available through the Fort Worth Police Department or the Texas Department of Public Safety. Information regarding sex offenders living in other cities may be obtained from the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction in that area or from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
